lightning shooting

How can i shoot lightnings? I mean what is the best procedure to do so for the D7000?
Is there some setting so that i can leave the shutter open as long as i like and close it on a click?

That depends on what camera you are using. If you are using a dslr, most likely there will be a shutter speed setting called "bulb." For nikon, you would scroll all the way to the slowest shutter speed setting to find this. The bulb setting will allow the shutter to be open for as long as you have your finger held down on the trigger. Note: remember your exposure triangle if the pictures come out to bright or too dark.
