Lightroom deleting all photos

My wife is using Lightroom to process her photos but is having an issue where a few minutes after importing them they get deleted and end up in the recycle bin.

Has anyone see this before?

What version of LR?

Deleted from where? Do you mean deleted from the camera/media card or from the LR catalog?
If you mean deleted from the camera or media card then you have the LR import mode set to "Move" rather than "Copy". Setting the import mode options (the options along the top of the import window) to copy will fix your problem.
If on the other hand LR is deleting the photos from the LR catalog then you have a problem that I have never struck before.
