Can anyone recommend a (not too expensive?) macro lens for a Sony Alpha 390? I'm really new to photography but I thought it'd be cool to buy something I can use to take pictures of bugs and plants.

If, for example, I get Sony's 50mm macro lens, how versatile is it? Will I only be able to use it for small wildlife or does it have other uses?

Smaller focal length macro means you will be closer to the subject. The 50mm can also be used as a portrait lens, like any other 50mm focal length lens.

I prefer macro's of longer length 90mm+ ... longer reach.
I currently have a Tokina 100mm macro (though it only does 1:2 not 1:1), its Ok for macro and I also use it as a med telephoto.
Tokina AT-X AF 100 F2.8 Macro  lens for Sony Alpha - Minolta camera mount

I am working on selling the Tokina as I am really after the Sigma 150mm macro.

I've heard good comments of the SAL30M28 But it might be a little short range.

I can't seem to find any entry level 50mm Macro Sony lens. I was sure there was one...
