makeshift wireless lighting?

I remember a while ago a guy from Jessops (UK camera store) told me about a method to have wireless flash capability without the need for spending lots of cash on pocket wizards or likewise.

He said that if you cover the front of a cheap speedlight/flash with exposed but undeveloped slide film it stops the light going through but sends what is effectively an infra red signal to your remote lights. Has anyone done this or known anyone to have done it?

I haven't, but I'd love to give this method a try. What exactly is slide film?

Slide film is slide film...hahaha...not 35mm negatives, but slide film. They're also called transparencies. They're more expensive to develop, but have supposedly less grain. I've never used it though.

yeah sorry transparency. not a lot of people call it slide film but it makes sense that it is beacuse it's mounted onto slides!
