Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
This is my very first post here, so I hoping I'm doing it right. If not, I'll re-read the "How to" post. :) I'm a very recent noob. I've taken a few shots that I think turned out well. This one was from today. I was riding my bike around Denver looking for shots and I saw this guy and his dog. He gave permission for a shot, so I took it. The original was okay, but I cropped it up, sharpened it a little, and tweaked a few things. I'm really trying to improve my photography skills as well as my post-processing skills. Any helpful criticism is more than welcome! I only have a Canon S95 compact camera at the moment, but it definitely can take some nice pictures.

EDIT: One thing I wish I had done at the time was use a wider aperture to try to get some bokeh effect here. I'd like for the background to not be so clear, but it's too late now for that unless I do it in GIMP or something.

I was looking at this again and seriously wishing that I had had my 60D when I took this picture. I could have used either of my two new lenses to blur out the background. That would have made this look so much better.

Welcome; your image is nice enough, but you're right, an unfocused background would have improved it. I'm not a fan of the desaturated look, but that's a personal thing. My one suggestion would be to clone out the person, light pole and bench by his shoulder.

Excellent idea to clone out that person and the light pole. I wouldn't want to change the crop much because I like it where it is, but those extras are a little distracting.

Thanks!
