I was out last night picking up some milk when a HUGE thunderstorm hit. I was then stuck in the doorway of the supermarket for the next half hour (I make it a point to never carry an umbrella) while there were enormous lightning strikes right in front of me. For the whole half hour, I was kicking myself for not having brought my camera, especially because right across from the supermarket is a church, and there was one instance where a lightning bolt hit the top of the metal cross, with Jesus hanging off it. And I swear, if I had managed to get a photo of that, it would've been amazing.

So anyway, I'd like to hear some other stories of moments you guys have had where an amazing photo opportunity came up in front of you but you didn't have your camera on you. Cheers!

Baseball sized hail here last evening.

No pics of hail, but got a pic of a car 0wned by hail...

Used the HDR setting on my iPhone and it sucks! But it brought out the detail...This is a Cadillac. The roof and trunk looked exactly the same.

I always have my camera on me but the day before yesterday I'll pulled my camera out at the doctor's office building to take an image for my 365. I was kind of excited to be in Louisville since I rarely make the drive. Click... no card. It was home in the computer. I kicked myself for an hour for not having a spare.

Last Monday while I was sitting at the park there was a fly, or some sort of fly, standing at the edge of the bench when suddenly another fly came and started humping this other fly. I kicked my self for one hour for not having my camera and a nice macro lens.

There's nothing worse than missing bug-porno! :lmao:

Would it not be dangerous to photograph that? The flash from a bolt of lightnig striking metal would have to be as bright as a plasma cutter slicing through metal. (which can blind the unprotected human eye) Without some form of protection I would think that would damage the camera's sensor. Unless the very short duration would make it safe.

3 weeks ago, walking to work. Guy on a motorcycle coming towards me...with a sidecar...that had a dog in it...wearing a leather cap and aviator glasses.

You couldn't just have your camera with you, you would have had to have the camera in hand for that one.

On my way to work last week I saw this beautiful sunrise and thought of this thread. The iPhone picture doesn't do any justice but the sunlight coming thru the clouds was beautiful. Taken in Ocean City MD.*
