Monitor Question

If I get a monitor to plug my laptop to, will I get the benefit of being able to calibrate it etc. I know laptops are mot ideal for photo work but would this at least be a step in the right direction. Thanks

Yes.

Not just a step in the right direction but it could also be a fully adequate solution if you get a good external display.

I lost my desktop about 5 months ago and I was in no hurry to replace it. I just put my laptop on the desk and plugged the cable from my external display into the laptop and got out the display calibrator. That gave me time to shop around and carefully replace the desktop which I finally did last month.
