I don't know it you all know but Montana is on Fire, well atleast the part around me is. From my work I can see 5 fires and not small ones eather. I plan on going out to take some pics in the next day or so and if I get anything good and don't set fire to myself, just joking I plan on being far away, I will post them. Anyone have any good fire shots?

I got some pretty good shots of a fire on the mountains that was very near my home late last year.

Unforunately, none of them are scanned at the moment. I'll try to get some scanned and post a few.

I took a fairly wide range of exposures and almost all of them turned out pretty good.

Well it did not go as I planned I drove around all day but the smoke was so bad I could not even see where it was coming from durining the day and at night when I could see the light from the fires I could not get with in 2 miles of the fires becouse all the road where closed. I did get a good shot of the moon which was red from all the smoke in the air and when I get it back I will post it if it is any good.
I would like to see your shots chaseman24, if you can scan them.

Thought i'd post a few of mine...

These were of a grass fire on the hill behind my house, it wasn't threatening so the authorities let it burn, keeping watch over it. It went for about 2 days. Unfortunately by the time it go dark enough the fire had move up the hill (was about 100m walk away when first visited) and was to far to walk in the dark (up a steep hill) so i pulled out the 300mm and snapped away (was hoping to get closer, but hey).

The three shots were taken at f/5.6 @ 30seconds with an EOS10. The 1st shot with a 300mm and the other 2 with the 28-135 IS.

Let me know what you think, especially with the cropping. The originals have the stars in the blank areas (you can see some, including the southern cross if you look hard, but my scanner aint the best). The red blur in the second and third is the light on top of a radio relay tower, though it would add a nice element to the shot, but it didn't show up in the shots.

Nikon ... why dont u go to one of those surplus stores and get yourself a gas/smoke mask? :D ... no risk, no fun  ...

It is very smoky here as you can see in the first 2 shots the next 3 are of a small fire from around 12:00 today, later there was a big wind storm that blew it up and now most of what you see is on fire.

Now you can see, I live about 5 mile from that fire. however it did rain the other day so the fire is smaller now and the smoke is not as bad.

I also live in Montana, up in the Flathead Valley about 2 hours from nikon. I tried last summer to get some pics of the surrounding fires but it was just too cloudy and I was totally pissed. All I managed to get out of the fires was a few shots of a red moon I also cannot find. Lucky summers almost here again lol
