My wife spotted this guy sitting on a tree branch quite close to the patio and he (I believe this one a male, though they're hard to tell apart) obligingly stayed put

We usually have a nesting pair in our yard. Our dog tries daily to scare them but they've become so used to her they don't even open their eyes when she barks at them. lol

I never really looked closely at them. They've always just "been there." I always thought them rather plain. Never realized they had that colouration, until I brought the photos, of which that was one, up on the computer.

Much like people, the less garish birds are often very interesting once we really dig into their personality and habits.

I always have about five or more of them in my backyard at all times. Very laid back birds that never cause any trouble and aren't skittish. Makes good practice for bird photography.
