My Hallway Flowers

Here's a shot I did in my hallway on my Fuji Finepix S7000 - after some massive GIMPing this is what came out. Thoughts and opinions?

It's difficult for me to find a b&w picture of flowers interresting. I also find the shadow distracting

I'm a beginner so take this for what it's worth, but I think I'd like this more if I could see the whole vase. I prefer color pictures, but since all the flowers are different I think the black and white can work.

Nice flower arrangement by the way.

To my eyes it needed portrait, flowers in the middle, full visibility of the vase. OR - really close in on the flowers, narrow DOF, no vase. I don't find the shadow too distracting as it adds depth to something which otherwise would look like it's been cut 'n' pasted onto a white background
