I belong to several other forums and many of them offer a feature in the Nature & Wildlife thread that essentially makes birds a separate thread. I think it would promote more people posting plants, etc if they didn't feel like they were going to be over-shadowed by flocks of herons, owls or ospreys. I do like the birders, and their images, but..........so, how about it..dump the naked ladies thread and break N&W into two threads.

The thing is plant photography tends to already go into the macro section (be the actual "true macro" or just close ups" whilst more large scale shots tend to go into the landscapes area.

Activity is also an important consideration, the section as it stands isn't really what I would consider overly used, so there is certainly room for animals and plants to fit together. I could see some justification for splitting birds off into its own section since there does tend to be a pretty strong amount of bird photography on its own posted. However then we hit the fact that we are a multi-discipline site and that we've already quite a few subsections.

I understand all the considerations but just looking at the first page of today's stuff and over half are bird pics..and many of them are quite stunning shots, well worth a good look and admiration, but....

Aye, but if you look at the overall spread of dates as well, the threads at the bottom of the first page are nearly 5 days old. With such a time gap its important to consider that if we take birds out then what is left behind just might not see enough attention.

Aye, but they go here because there isn't as much a possibility for review when competing for time with cute owl babies or ECU's of raptors staring the viewer down. Also, the Macro section doesn't say Macros or Close-ups, it only references macros. I think you should at least consider it for a month's trial run. I don't think any less people are going to skip the birds but I do think more people will tend to post in the N&W section with non-bird images and there will be a greater commenting interaction.
