I recently lost my camera and lenses in a moment of stupidity. The insurance company is sending my a check to cover the entire loss. Since I am going to have cash I am going to upgrade to a D80. My question is about lenses though. I am torn between getting the 18-55mm f3.5 kit lens and the 70-300mm f4.5 ED IF AF-S VRII lens or just getting the 18-200mm f2.8 VRII lens. Previously I had the 18-55mm f3.5 and the 70-300mm f4 lens. I wasn't really happy with the 70-300mm lens at the higher end. I was un able to get sharp pictures with it no matter what I did. From the review the new 70-300mm VR lens is much better. The reviews on the 18-200mm are also great. So if it were you what would you do? If it matters I have found myself using the 70-300mm lens at the 300 end quite a bit. But that could just be because it was there. What do you think? Thank you in advance for all your help.

Joe I don't use Nikon but I'd say get the fastest lenses you can. Something with a constant f2.8 aperture will be better than VR when dearling with faster moving subjects and low light.

Tamron 17-50 f2.8 and Sigma 70-200 f2.8 are decent buys.
