I had a sony powershot t3 (link to old camera: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=14556 )but dropped it and broke it. I wanted something more professional anyways.. here are the options.. I need it for just photos in general mostly for my sons sports. I could never take action shots of him playing sports cause it was always blurry and it was a small digital camera so I couldn't zoon in from the benches to the field. also looking for nice crisp pictures. IF YOU HAVE ANY CAMERA BELOW A ACTUAL NON PHOTOSHOPED RAW IMAGE WOULD BE NICE. 1.) Canon - EOS Digital Rebel XT 8.0MP Digital SLR Camera $599 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7026069&type=product&id=1099394810083 2.) Nikon - 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera $699 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8288293&type=product&id=1172276684244 3.) Nikon - 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera $549 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8139169&type=product&id=1158323379076 4.) Canon - PowerShot 8.0MP Digital Camera - Black $399 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8297513&type=product&id=1172881524725 6.) Well. you should knock out #5 and #6. Point and shoots are not really ideal for sports photography. Besides... I think the Gseries is better than both of them... G9. Neither produces RAW.
#2 is the lower end version of #3... if it comes down to either. .you might as well take the higher end one. I'm not a Nikon shooter but I believe the consensus is to go with the D80 if you can afford it. You also have to realize that lens choice is EXTREMELY important when it comes to shopping for SLRs. Nothing linked has lens choice taken into consideration in regards to sports. So before anyone beats me to the exo-defacto Canon answer.... Canon XT (better yet the XTi) with 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM...
First off you can start by not buying cameras a electronics stores Ritz D40x $629.00 http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/541530739.htm B+H D40x $642 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/494398-REG/Nikon__D40x_Digital_Camera_with.html Personally I would go with a Nikon but that is just me. Your best bet is to go to a CAMERA store with a budget in mind and a few models and touch and hold them to figure out wich one is the best one for you. Oh yeah and pretty much take most of a Ritz Camera employee's opinion of wich brand you should buy with a grain of salt as they are encouraged with monetary incentives to push specific brands (generally ones that do not sell) on you. I would however trust at least some of the knowledge they have wich is why BB is not the best place to buy your camera. Honestly whatever you do (and this is also just opinion) you should choose between Canon and Nikon.
