Ok, won't bore you with the gory details but as it turns out apparently I'm going to be in the market for a wide angle lens very soon. The body I'm using is a Nikon D5200. I was hoping to get some feedback from folks on some of the various wide angle lenses they own and use or have used. Thanks in advance.

Love my Nikon 10-24mm, has more of a focal range than most any other wide angle so is that much more versatile. Most used lens for landscape and architecture.

I have the Nikkor 12-24 f/4 DX lens and would highly recommend it. Despite of being a DX lens, it works beautifully on my FX camera in the 16-24mm range. Could be had used for $500-$600 in good condition.

Based on price, I'd go with the Tokina 11-16mm (the one with the built in motor rather than the one without). That's based on suggestions I got from my own thread which I posted with the exact same question. I did my research and found that it seems to be a pretty decent lens overall. With that said, I've never tried it myself... so what I have to say only goes so far.

In my personal opinion, you should want your wide angle lens to go as wide as possible. 1mm difference matters more and more as you get wider and wider. Between 24mm and 25mm on DX isn't a big deal. Between 10mm and 11mm is a big deal. So a wide that hits 10mm might matter to you. But... again... I don't have personal experience on this matter, since I haven't gone wider than 16mm on DX ever.

Just sharing since these are the things I was thinking on. Unfortunately wide angle on DX is such an invested decision... you really have to commit to a DX lens if you want wide angle on DX.

I love my tokina 11-16. I own the Rokinon 14mm too (same thing as samyang) and it's a great lens- VERY sharp. I got a sharp copy but the distance scale on the focus ring is completely off. I figured out where "true" infinity is so I kept it. I also owned the tokina 12-24 f4 which you may consider if you'd like a little more range. I liked the lens but it wasn't wide/fast enough for shooting astro stuff (I noticed a difference between 11mm vs. 12mm in terms of shutter speed I could use before getting trailing in the stars)

The 12-24 was nice but I think my 11-16 is a little sharper

If I ever get a wide lens it would be a Nikon 16-35 f4 vr

Sigma 10-20mm is excellent, and I see you have a lot of Sigmas already. Not very expensive.

One more vote for the Tokina 12-24 f/4... More useful range then the 11-16 f/2.8 and I've never missed the 11mm or f/2.8.

I had the Tamron 10-24 3.5-4.5. Worked well enough for me. The corners got pretty distorted/soft at 10mm. But the wide angle, plus being able to focus within about 3" of the front element lead to some interesting captures.

Here's a few with my D3100:

all these should be 10mm.

I rented the Tamron 10-24,Tokina 11-16,and the Nikon 10-24....I really liked the Tokina but felt the range was limited.I ended up buying the Nikon.1thing I learned along the way,is if you use a filter, make sure its thin,or it will be visible at the lower extreme.

Ok, important to note on the filter. The lens itself will really only be used for wide angle so the limited range won't be to much of an issue i don't think. Really appreciate everyone taking the time to respond with their thoughts, will have to research a couple of these and go from there.
