So a week ago I purchased a black Leicaflex SL2, sold to me as broken, with its LCD screen being unresponsive (!!)... Turns out the seller was pretty unaware of how older film cameras work and such. I get the SL2, I cock the shutter, put it on 1 second and >bang< comes to life purring like a well fed kitten. All speeds work well, at least to my ear. I put two batteries in it, one for metering and the other for illuminating the viewfinder when it's too dark to see the meter's needle, everything works like it should. I had to play a bit around with the batteries (625s) and thin them on both sides because they wee a bit too thick and the battery caps would not close correctly. I think the Kodak made 625s are thin enough for this job...
I am aware that the voltage of the 625s is around 1.5V and the original Wein battery for the Leicaflex is 1.35V, there are adapters to be had (C.R.I.S. makes them with incorporated diodes to reduce voltage from 1.5V to 1.35V) and they are a stone throw away from where I live. I will check the seals next... Can't wait to put my 35-70 Vario-Elmar on and get shooting some BW.
Happy...
