New and Confused

Hello everyone.
My husband bought me a Nikon D80 so that I could take better pics of my kids playing sports. I love photography but am so confused at the present. I can't quite seem to get my settings correct to take indoor picture of my son's basketball pictures. Talk about FRUSTRATING. That's me.
I've been trying to figure out how to take them and no luck. Anyways,

Now to the pictures. Whats wrong with them? Out of focus or too dark maybe? What settings are you trying? Is the gym dark? What lens are you using? Are you using flash?

Answering a few of these questions will help us get down to what is going on.
