So I was out this morning with the group shooting pictures at Arlington. Well I got there early and shot some pictures of the Air Force Memorial. The shot attached is a bracketed shot. I'd expect the whole picture to be lightened, not just the center. Anybody know what caused this, is this the camera, bad setting ?? I never had that issue ever with my 5100.
EXIF
2.5sec

ISO 100
AP Mode
Metering Pattern
Focal 17mm

Next picture. I was going for a long exposure and I noticed this god awful color issue right through the middle of my picture. It didn't matter if it was horizontal or vertical. I even swapped out my kit lens, with my 35mm 1.8g and the filter and had the same issue. I've never had this issue with me 5100 and this filter (Hoya ND400). But it shows up with my 7100. I was able to reproduce this at home. In Manual mode, I set it for f29/ 25seconds and I definitely get this with my 7100, but not my 5100.
EXIF

f/25
ISO 100
AP Mode
Metering Pattern
Focal 34mm

I'm hoping this is just a setting in the camera that I've not figured out, because I'm going to be upset if this is the camera.

Time to use that brand new Nikon warranty that came with the camera.

It's a piece of mass produced consumer electronics. It is cost prohibitive to test each one before packaging and shipping. Some % of them will develop a problem between the factory and the consumer.

It happens to all consumer electronics makers.

I get similar results as Photo #2 using my Hoya ND filter on my D7100. As for photo #1, was you using Spot metering? If so, maybe the Spot meter was placed on part of the subject that was already blown out?

Photo #2 could be coming from the view finder. Try covering the view finder area when shooting with nd filter.

Yup.. I played around with it this morning, and the covering the eye piece is a must for the D7100. Strange I never had this issue with my D100 though, so a little learning curve for me. As for picture #1, it was matrix metering, 11 pictures in all -5 up to +5 in 1 stop increments. The Under and Normally exposed pictures turned out fine, it's just the +4 and +5 that were really exaggerated like the one I posted.
