Hi guys!

Some friend is selling a Canon EF 24-105 f/4 L IS USM lens, for me, probably less than $500 and I'm wondering if I really need this lens. It's barely used, its in mint condition and it's a L lens. I'm more fond of f/2.8 lenses since I'm always taking photos indoors in low light condition but I'm not quite sure about buying it or safe money for other lens. I'm a newbie in photography and my gear is a T4i with the 18-135 STM kit lens, a 40mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.8 lens. What do you think?

If it is in good condition and the cost is $500. GET IT!!!! No need to think.

So if you buy it for only $500. Even if you use it for a year or 2 and decide that is not the lens you like, you can sell it back for the same price you buy it for or MORE.

Although I still miss the great zoom range my EF-S 18-135 f3.5-5.6 that I replaced with a 24-105 f4L, the added IQ and fixed aperture through the zoom is well worth it, in my book. I knew I was going FF at some point, which I did last November, so the EF-S lenses had to go.

As far as shooting in low light with the 24-105, I'm thinking your T4i should be able to bump up the ISO to 3200 and still produce acceptably noise-less photographs. With that ISO, faster shutter speeds to stop subject movement in low light without a flash can be achieved.
