A Norwegian technology magazine (Teknisk ukeblad) writes that a new technology for focusing in cell phones is being developed. You take a picture, and can then choose where to focus. This sounds very much like the technology people wrote about last fall.

Supposedly, this makes the phone able to take five photos within milliseconds. Different focus is not achieved by moving lens elements in a magnetic field, but rather by curving the lens element, which leads to light being scattered in a different way. Software makes it possible to "drag your finger down the screen" to get the whole scene in focus.

They speculate that this will be in phones during next year.

I'm curios, if we're talking milliseconds here, surely they could get more than five images before movement became an issue? That would make "critical focus" easier to achieve.
