New for me. B&W Flash at night (C&C)

I've never shot B&W, nor at night with a flash. But at a family cookout when they were all playing music I decided to start shooting, breaking out the flash. Mostly just point and shoot photos for friends and family but I did see something I wanted a serious shot of. Heres what I was able to get. I'm actually rather fond of it for being spontaneous. Yes someone's arm did get in the way. It wasn't posed, got it while they were playing.

FYI, the pick guard is scratched from playing, its not a photo artifact. I did play with it a bit in Paintshop Pro X3, but I didn't really do anything except a little blur and tried out noise reduction. (Just got the software today).

This was before I got my Nikon D300, so its on my Sony A200, which has to be repaired. Was shooting with a malfunctioning camera. What do ya'll think? Not exactly sure what that is above his hand though.
