Hi my name Derek. At the age of 73 I have decided to sell my business and retire and follow some of my very neglected hobbies like photography.
My main interest is the flora and fauna of NZ and OZ. Have included my first photo with a bit of useless info to get started. Comments welcomed.
Del.
Kahikatea (White Pine) Podocarpus Dacrydioides
These trees are normally known by the Maori name of Kahikatea.pronounced(KA-HI-KA-T-ER) The timber from these trees is odourless. They were practically wiped out in the 1800s as the timber was used for making boxes to export butter to Britain. A lot of farmers in the Waikato have stands of these trees on their property and they are making a come back.
Just a bit of useless information.
