Hey guys...just thought I would let everyone know that Joby finally got an SLR version of their GorrilaPod.

http://joby.com/gp2.html

Seems to me this would be a great portable tripod as you can theoretically wrap it around your camera case when hiking.

Not pitchin...just sharing... 50 dollars, free ground shipping, and if you go to gizmodo.com they have a 5 dollar off coupon.

I want to get one of these for use with a Nikon D80, with a few different lenses (including one zoom; a Tamron 70-300mm). The people at one of the online shops selling these tells me that the GP3 (SLR Zoom) can take more weight, but the GP2 (SLR) has a flexible head, so would presumably be more adaptable / flexible to different situations/angles. Aarrrrgh!! Can anyone advise me which of these they think is the best??
(I was looking at this website: http://www.eoutlet.co.uk/productslistm.aspx?ManufacturerID=32). Thanks.

Welcome to the forum

In the description for the SLR model is says this...
For a heavier SLR cameras see the Gorillapod SLR Zoom
So if your Tamron 70-300 is heavy...then the SLR-Zoom model would be the best choice. If the more flexible SLR model will hold the weight...then that would be good enough.

I've never used a gorilla, nor do I know how heavy your lens is. Maybe weight your camera and lens, then try to find out if the SLR model isll accommodate that.
