soo.. I am thinking about getting a new lens, just a all around lens with maybe a bit of macro.. I have narrowed it down to two lenses... the cannon 28-105 mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM or the canon 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. Can any one help me out in choosing.. will i really miss the extra 30mm in zoom, the IS etc? Other lens suggestions are welcome, looking to spend under $300.

Currently I have 50mm f/1.8 and the 18-55 IS (XSI kit lens)

The EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM has IS which helps when you're shooting at slower shutter speeds. But it's also known to have a problem with CA (chromatic aberration) when zoomed all the way out and suffers from zoom creep (lens will zoom in or out depending on the tilt of the camera if you're not holding the barrel). I have this lens and it's okay to shoot with but I use my EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM more.

I was looking at the EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM at one point but got the EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM instead because a friend sold it to me for a good price. I hear the EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM is a pretty good walk around lens for the price.
