Photos NOT OK to edit
Hello Forum members,
My name is Mike. I'm 61 and retired. When I was young my father gave me his old Zeiss Ikon 35mm. On this I learned all about ASA, f-stop etc. Later I moved on to a Nikon FM with a 200mm zoom.
Up until now I have been using a Pentax Optio which I scored at a garage sale for three dollars. It's ok for point and shoot and Macro but gives terrible resolution with video.
My main hobby is Marklin model railroading and I have a large layout.
Recently I came across a good deal on a GOPRO 10 so I can make videos of my trains among other things. Now I'm having trouble playing back the vids on my desk top. GOPRO tech assist could not solve my problem. I called them three times.
I am looking forward to to getting help from all the digital experts in the forum. I will post this in the help thread.
Thank you,
Mikey

Welcome Mike. I don't believe gopro is a proper camera like your Zeiss or Nikon. It's basically a point and shoot right. Meant to be strapped onto helmets and other platforms.

Oh yes, I agree. The price was right and I needed some good video capability which I had none.

Howdy and welcome!
Not a GoPro expert by any means, but here are some ideas. Best performance is to copy the videos from the GoPro to an SSD, and use a compatible viewer, such as GoPro Player (free), or GoPro Player Hyper Smooth Pro ($$), VLC (free), or products from Topaz Labs or Adobe designed specifically to work with video. Is your Desktop a Windows PC or a Mac? On a Windows PC, the graphics card and system memory are going to be very important, newer Macs shouldn't have too much of an issue. Not having the right hardware is going to give you sluggish, jittery results. Hope that helps get you in the right direction.

Hi Jeff,
I gave some details in the "anything gopro camera help heading" But if you want to talk here that's ok (As long as the moderators don't mind. I don't want to get in trouble my 3rd day on the job).
So, it's a Windows 10 desk top. I have VLC, Handbreak and some other stuff I loaded last night. Nothing seems to work. I'm going nuts.
I keep getting pop ups saying "I don't have HVEC video extensions and It's encoded in HVEC format which isn't supported." Also, I can't open the Microsoft store. Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't VLC supposed to have the HVEC extension?
Thanks ,
Mikey

Yes, VLC supports HVEC files. Let me go look at the other chat.
