Julian at DIGIFOTO PRO has posted a comparison video between the "hacked" GH2 and the upcoming Panasonic G6. The G6 has a mic jack, focus peaking, the same sensor as the GH2, and shoots at 1080/60p. For $749 with the kit lens (and less without?), this could be a great GH2 replacement for shooters who can't afford a GH3 (even though used GH3 prices are coming down :)).

Here's the comparison video (please watch at 1080p):

Please see the blog for low light and moire comparisons.

Hey, thanks for the info :) Planning on getting the g6 for video. Would you recommend a dslr or a micro four thirds camera for video?
Thanks

Hi Michael - I strongly recommend the Panasonic G6 over any DSLR outside of the $3000 Canon 5D Mark III.

The reasons are:

- DSLR viewfinders stop working in video mode, forcing you to use the LCD - or buy an external viewfinder. Mirrorless cameras or DSLMs such as the Panasonic G6 have electronic viewfinders that continue working in video mode,

- DSLRs are generally limited to 12, 20, or 30 minutes of continuous video - which can be a problem for speeches, sermons, school plays, live theater, etc. DSLMs have essentially unlimited continuous recording (hours, instead of minutes)

- DSLRs generally have poor video autofocus and lenses with noisy autofocus motors. DSLMs such as the G6 have bulletproof video autofocus, and silent video-optimized lenses.

In addition, most DSLRs (except the Nikon D5200, the Nikon D7100 and the Canon 5D Mark III) are susceptible to a shot-ruining phenomenon called moire - 'shimmering' colored patterns on brickwork, shingled roofs and striped clothing or fabrics. See this side-by-side example between the Canon 60D DSLR and the Panasonic GH2 micro 4/3 DSLM (the G6 uses the GH2's sensor):

Below $800, the G6 will be your best video value for money. It is in stock for $749 now at Adorama.

Hope this is helpful,

Bill
