New to DSLR, but used to shoot tons of film with my old 35mm....

Like a lot of people, I graduated (not sure that's the right word....more liked 'moved over') from a 35mm SLR to PAS digital cameras. My Lumix TZ5 is a wonderful piece of kit for such a small camera, but everything digital compact I have owned left me missing the manual settings and artistic fun of my old SLR's. It's taken a long time (time and money are not always readily available with a family of growing kids), but I've finally crossed over into the light with a Nikon D3100 and 18-55mm lens. I want to get my feet fully immersed in the DSLR world and learn back all of my SLR skills before I look for a fancier camera.

I'm very excited about this and very keen to dive into these forums to learn about improving my camera skills....
