New to DSLRs, what do I buy?

did your Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 come with your camera?

If I had to do it all over again, I would still get the XTi, but NOT the kit lens. Instead I would get:

Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
$409

Canon 50mm f/1.8
$90

Canon XTi Body Only
$528

Total that comes to under $1100...and the rest you could spend on stuff like a memory card, bag, tripod...that junk.

yes, i got it as the kit lens. Now I wish I hadnt, but I didnt know better. Its not a TERRIBLE lens, but there is a lot better ones out there for a little bit more $$!

Oh, and to answer your question about the XSi, it comes out around April 27th I believe. For the body only, I think its about $800....I think you would be better off sticking with the Xti and spending the extra $$ on lenses

dufrenbk. 1300 is actually a pretty good start. Are you new to photography or just SLRs?

That's the same boat I was in. I'm still a fan of Kodak's easy share believe it or not(decent quality and some of my all time favorite pictures with my fiance and I are done with this HATED batter life though) but now that I've been with SLR cameras I could never go back.

Rebels are easy to use and there's a lot of options available to you. You can put just about any glass on it as well as take your shots in raw format and edit your photos til the cows come home. Only reason I didn't get the XTI was the only big difference I saw was the MP.
