New to the Forum, A Little About Myself...

First a little about myself. I am a soldier stationed at Fort Campbell, KY. I have served in the Army for 8 years and have recently decided to take up photography as a hobby that allows me to relax and stay active outside of work. I enjoy photographing nature as well as family portraits. I would definitely call myself a beginner; I am currently shooting with a Canon T2i using the 18-55 kit lens. Below are a couple of my favorite shots I have taken thus far. Any criticism is welcome.

The lighting is flat in both of them. Try and shoot at the golden hours (the hour after sunrise, and the hour before sunset), to get more dramatic and interesting lighting.
