Hello all, my name is Kyle and I just bought my first DSLR last friday, a Canon 60D with the 18-135 IS lens. I've been shooting a mix of film and digital since 2005 and just recently decided that shooting film was too much work for me. It was fun and I enjoyed learning a dying art, along with developing and printing my own work. But it just got to the point where it was too time consuming. I sold off all of my film gear in late october except for one Yashica Mat, and took a short break from photography. But that all changed when I picked up the 60D, I shoot mostly landscape and architecture, with very little to no low light photography so the F3.5-5.6 max aperture of the 18-135 shouldn't hinder me too bad. If it ever gets to be a problem I'll pick up a 50mm 1.8, although I'm a little skeptical of the plastic mount on that particular lens. I plan to hang around the forum and learn what I can, and possibly contribute from time to time.

Kyle, I don't think you should worry about the plastic mount. The 50mm is a good lens and it's very light so there's no significant strain on the mount and nothing to worry about in normal use. I've hauled it up mountains and shot in a variety of conditions.

Good to hear you're enjoying the 60D and lens.

HI.
Hmm, and don't let people make fun of your avatar.
... and silver halide is not dying, it just decided to get out the way of the stampede.

Well I got an email today and apparently Capital One extended my credit line, so of course I ran to Best Buy after work and picked up a nifty fifty. Haven't got a chance to try it out yet though.
