New to the forum, would love C&C

I'm shooting in manual. I don't really WANT f8, but when I had it too much lower with more than one subject in the shot, only ONE person was sharp b/c the focus point is so small at lower apertures. When I finally got the exposure looking right, I was all the way down at f1.8 but then only one person was sharp and the rest were not. I think I need more light, but then it looks too harsh on the subjects.

It's like a puzzle I can't fit the pieces in right. :er:
