'Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink.'

How fitting that a rare blue moon rose on the evening of the memorial remembering the first man on the moon.

Flags were at half staff yesterday for Neil Armstrong...

The moon shot is soft due to handholding the 400mm while shooting a football game.

Nice shot. After they landed there looking at the moon was never the same for me. It seemed to be much closer after that. Armstrong was a strange guy, and his death continues to be strange. Why a nation didnt hold him in a special regard. After all, in all of history past, present and future, there can only ever be one man who first stepped on another world, and that one man was Armstrong. He and Aldrin are two true heros who were the first to set down not knowing for sure they would ever get off again. Living until their oxygen ran out while the world watched on tv. It was a big possibility considering the primitive state of computers back then and how much computers are an integral part of the launch and landings.

???

Are you confusing the Apollo 13 mission where they did not make a moon walk (and ran into serious malfunctions resulting in low oxygen) with Apollo 11? The only glitch that affected 11 was when Buzz Aldrin broke the breaker switch for the main engine on the Lunar Module, but it didn't delay or run them low on O2 as they used a felt pen to trip the breaker making a clean return to the capsule.

Anyways, here's another shot take a bit later where I was not quite as shaky holding that heavy 400mm lens.

Nice shots.. nice thoughts! :)

Nope not confusing them at all. Just speaking out on what could have happened all too easily and the chances they took. The Eagle taking off from the moon had never been tested under actual conditions. So if it never got off they would have been stuck there knowing it was the end for them until their oxygen ran out. The problems with Apollo 13 really magnified the potential problems, possible and real for any of those guys who went into space.
