I wasn't sure where to ask this question so I figured I would put it here.

I have the Nikkor 18-70mm lens. The other day, while I was changing over to
it, I noticed how dusty it was. So, I grabbed the old lens cleaning cloth and
began cleaning it up. Only problem was, it was on the INSIDE of the lens.

Can this be cleaned? Do I have to send it back to Nikon for cleaning or can a
reputable shop clean something like this for me?

Just wondering. It's not life and death, but I figured if anyone would know,
it would be you folks here on this forum. :)

Most dust in or on the lens will have little or no effect on the images...so I'd say 'don't worry about it'. I'm sure Nikon would have happy to clean it for you...but probably at $65/hour.

Dust between the elements is just an indication that a lens has been taken out and used. It happens to all of them.

My 35-70 has junk inside of it from use, but you can't tell in images. It's probably got a bunch of dust in it becuase it's a push-pull. That suction from pulling it out i'd guess brings dirt in. Doesn't matter though, because it doesn't show it in the images.
