You should buy it. I have yet to regret replacing my 300 2.8 with it. Granted, it's not quite as sharp as the prime, but at <1/3 the cost? I can live with the very minor difference.

I might buy it later this year. My GF has the 300mm /2.8 VR II already
and this would be just a fun lens...or I could buy Celestron’s new NexStar 6 SE telescope for that kinda money.
