Yeaaaaaaa this isn't something I'm crazy about. You can get a sigma or nikon 50 1.4g and a nikon 85 1.4d or g from KEH for the same price combined. 1.2 would have been more of item to drool over.
Sorry I might have missed something but why is this such big news ? What is wrong with the 50mm 1.4G ? Why do we need an extra 8mm ? Is there something unique that we need this lens over the 50mm 1.4G ?
Aside from the Nano coating - I don't see a value in it. This is just me. I'd rather get the 85 1.4G for just a hair less
Going with the 1.2 theme, I would love to see a 50mm 1.2 AF and not the MF version they currently have. Maybe there is some history behind it that I am not aware of or some photographic magic behind the number 58mm but for me 50mm seem like a much more common and comfortable fucal length to work with.
eek, that's a lot of money. I agree with the above... I think a 50mm 1.2 would have got more people biting, just for that 1.2
