EDIT: Actually I guess I never did say that! Sorry! But it is a great lens.... one of the best you can get for that money!

The 55-300mm never concerned me. It was a choice between 55-200mm and 70-300mm. I choose the 55-200mm simply because its lightweight and I was told (and agree nowadays) that weight actually matters a lot.

The 70-300mm however is good if you want to do sports. You should probably also get a better AF system though. The D5200 or D7000, for example. My D5100 is a bit underpowered for this.
