Hi I'm a newbie and beginner in dslr photography. I recently sold my canon and upgraded to a secondhand Nikon D3100. However I'm just finding the pictures are looking cloudy and unclear. Would you say this is broken or is something wrong do I need to alter anything? Thanks for help in advance :)

Post a sample with settings to get better advice.

Greetings Elizabeth,

As Hirejn suggest if you can post a couple of sample images and the settings you used to take them we can probably assist you a little better. What I'd recommend before you do anything else is to reset the camera back to it's factory defaults, that way you'll know it's not something that the previous owner changed in the camera setup that is causing the issue.

Then once you get the camera reset, take a couple of test shots and if the problem persists post them and we'll see if we can't diagnose it further.

Yes pictures please.

While the Nikon D3100 is currently Nikon's most basic camera it is still a pretty good camera and should produce under the proper conditions good sharp images.
The problem might be either the camera or lens.

By chance have you cleaned the lens? I had the same problem when I went on vacation last during the holidays and even did a reset. The I found out I had a dirty lens. It was actually one of my "duh" moments.
