Nikon D3400 vs D5300

Hello,

I have currently a Nikon D3100 for a couple of years and I'm very pleased with it's performance. I'm taking it everywhere in my trips and I never regret carrying it, the photos that it makes are simply outstanding.

I want to upgrade it to a 24MP camera and I'm almost decided to go with a Nikon D5300 which in my country (with a couple of discounts) costs the same as a Nikon D3400. Do you agree that I should go with a D5300 vs a D3400 if the price is the same? I see that Nikon discontinued D5300 but I don't see any major differences even with their new models (D5600 for example). The price difference is huge tho. Thank you!

I'm pretty sure the D3300/3400 & D5300/5400/5600 all use the same Sony Exmor IMX193 image sensor.
The major differences between the D3x00 and D5x00 lines are the metering sensor and the Auto Focus module.
The D3x00 series uses a 420 pixel metering sensor and Nikon's 11 AF point Multi-CAM 1000 AF module.
The D5x00 series uses Nikon's 2016 pixel metering sensor and the Multi-CAM 4800, 39 focus point AF module.

Just for the AF I would already go with the D5300, add to that articulating screen and some more goodies and you got yourself few more reasons to get the D5300

If they cost the same, get the 5300.
