Hey everyone! Do I need to get a vertical grip for the D40 to mount it in a vertical position on a tripod? I don't have the camera in front of me and just wanted to verify. If so, any recommendations on the cheapest setup to make it work both vertical and horizontal on a tripod with little to no changes between shots?

Do you own a tripod? Which one?

My Manfrotto 190XPROB allows both vertical and horizontal shots with limited changes.

Do you know how to use it? Does it permit you to change the orientation from horizontal to vertical?

Mine does.

Lots of tripods will allow you to just tilt to the side to shoot vertical. Beyond that there are L brackets for the camera (provided your tripod has the correct type of quick release), so you can just clip it to the tripod either way.

Yes, ball head. Looks like I can rotate it so its oriented in vertical position - I didn't know it had that rotational option. Thanks!
