Nikon D5100 3D tracking for equine sport photography?

I shoot manual mode. I own a Nikon D5100 and usually have my settings on AF-C and the dynamic- area AF. Should I be using the 3D-tracking instead? I photograph horses (as most will know through previous posts) so fast moving, jumping around objects.

Ive used 3D tracking for baseball and it works well, give it a go. (that was on a D7000)
