Nikon D700 autofocus issue??

Hey guys, I brought a Nikon D700 yesterday, I just mainly have 1 question.

When looking through the viewfinder on S mode I can see all the viewfinder auto focus points working away as they should, as soon as I turn it to C, they vanish completely, I assume this is suppose to happen, but is there any way I can turn them back on to show the focus points?

I've got my D700 right next to me.
Mine does the same. In C mode, I can move a focal point around if I'm using a single focal point. If a group, they don't show.

Look at page 288.

You need to turn the AF point display ON, so that the AF points will be shown.

I myself cannot stand having the AF area in use set to NOT show up!!!
