Nikon or Sigma

How do the Sigma lenses compare to with the Nikon ones. In particular I am interested in the Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 VR, and was wondering if the Nikon is worth the extra money.

I don't know about this comparison specifically. However, I can tell you that the Nikkors at the upper end of the price/design scale like this VR lens are as good as lenses can be. At the low end that is not true. Some Sigma lenses would be better than some Nikkors at the lower end of the scale. Whether something is worth the extra money is a personal matter. Value is in the eye of the buyer, not the opinion of someone on the internet.

My own experience with the Nikkor 70-200 is very positive. Only the best fixed focal length telephotos can match it. I've never tested the Sigma. Sorry.
