Red Dot has announced the Nikon Z9 won the "Best of the Best" award.

If you are interested in what is cutting edge design of all sorts of products, Red Dot is worth a look.

This camera is simply a beast.

I guess you missed the lower link.

Here’s a quote:
”The Red Dot Design Award is a world-class design competition that has 67years of history. Entries from around 60 countries and regions were submitted for the "Red Dot Award: Product Design 2022", which were judged by a panel of recognized design specialists from around the world based on aspects such as degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics and durability. Winning products will be showcased at the special exhibition to be held at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany.

See the Red Dot Online website for further information on the Red Dot Design Awards.”

The Z9 is supposed to have more than 50% of the pro market share - not sure where I heard that, though. Probably on a TV financial newscast.

Looks like an amazing camera, but being a Canon Fanboy, I'm waiting for the R-7 or whatever the APS-C R camera turns out to be. For the top of the line people, the EOS-R1 will be replacing the 1D, and then the best new camera of 2023 will likely be a Canon. Like the waves and the ocean.

The Z9 sounds like an amazing camera. I wonder what the Z8 will bring.

There is no perfect camera. Every one of them has advantages and disadvantages. You make your choice on what to buy based on your umique individual situation then learn to live with that decision. Given that mirrorless is relatively new technology, wait a year or two and your new camera will be obsolete anyway. Fanatical loyalty to a brand is irrational. Above everything else, embrace the truism that a new camera will not make you a better photographer.

My D850 / D500 combination has served me well and I wanted to keep using my f mount glass, so I decided to stay with Nikon and pre-ordered my Z9 on the day of announcement. It took 15 1/2 weeks to get to me in mid February. My sports / wildlife / birding, especially BIF, keeper rate has gone way up and I attribute that to IBIS, the new AF system with eye tracking, and a 20fps raw frame rate. Is it perfect? No. Sometimes the eye tracking AF system loses the eye and focuses on the background. This can happen for smaller song birds in trees, but it's still significantly better than the AF system in my D850 / D500. Talking to other photographers with the A1 and R5, they see similar problems, although the A1 probably is a bit more sticky than the Z9 and R5 and doesn't lose the eye as much. Just like with the D850 / D500, I've learned to deal with it just like you all have learner to live with the shortcomings of your gear. It is a significant improvement over my dslrs, but again, not perfect.

Really? Any confirmation bias at work here? Despite the hype, it's just another review whose "take" on products amounts to just another opinion.

As (Chico) Marx said: "who ya gonna believe me or your own eyes?"

Seriously? Dude, do the work and investigate Red Dot before you spout off an uninformed opinion. International design is not only a "Nikon" arena, check the history of other products they have awarded.

Your anti Nikon bias is so apparent its quite funny. Sorry to disappoint your favourite brand didn't win but none the less this was posted in "Industry News" since Red Dot awards industrial design.

Sounds like a great camera! I'm yet to make my move to mirrorless, I'm traditional :)
I'm a great fan of traditional mirrorless cameras - Crown Graphic, Speed Graphic, Graflex XL, Koni Rapid Omega 100, Voightlander Bessa L, Beasa R, Bessa R3M. Zeiss SW ... as well as some Fuji, Kodak and Mamiya folders. Digital is fun to play with, though.
