Noise

Okay I don't get it, it seems I have more noise in a RAW file than I do in the JPEG file. I'm using capture NX2 to process the RAW files. So is it the program adding the noise?

Are the images underexposed to begin with?

I have turn the in camera noise reduction off.

Raw file is not affected by in camera NR. The program may automatically sharpen your photo. If you have noise, it will show the noise even more.

Yep the biggest source of noise is underexposure. Even a little will exaggerate noise.

I think if I remember this was just a tad slight underexposed.
D90 - Tamron 17-50 f2.8 handheld. Shot Raw at ISO 3200 test shot zero noise processing.
Lightroom adjusted levels and sharpen. No post NR.
