Noob film question

I just got a Canon Elan II and was wondering if there is anyway to turn the camera off when it's not in use? Do I pull the battery, or just leave it on?

I've never shot film, so I'm sorry if this question has a pretty obvious answer.

I am not familiar with the model, but if it is an older SLR and fully mechanical then the battery just powers the light meter, so putting on the lens cap effectively turns the camera off because it stops the meter from reading available light.

Or maybe just google it. I dunno.

I googled it, but couldn't find anything. I downloaded a web version of the instruction manual and for reference, if anybody is wondering, you just switch the dial on the top left to "L" to power it off.
