i am a noob to photography. i do landscape, aquarium, and action photography.

equipment:
canon eos-1d (dad's but i use it)
canon powershot s50 (3 years old but a great shooter)

i'll list lenses later.

Thanks. Photography is just something I am getting into. Its amazing how little settings can change a picture. Quick Question. Using a tripod, do you recommend setting my aperture to f/22? i like the depth of field, but what is usually done?

Well, that depends. Is your subject moving? How much light do you have?

I suggest you read a good intro to exposure (Understanding Exposure by Peterson comes to mind)

lighting is fairly moderate and the subject does not move. i am still fairly far away from the subject (28-70mm canon lens, so 1' away) but am looking into the 100mm f/2.8 canon macro lens.
