Sometimes even what we believe to be the obvious, isn't, such is the case with the Clock Tower, in Rome, GA, built in 1871. The structure was built to house a 26 ft diameter by 63 ft tall steel water tank, that provided the water supply for the city. For further reading if interested. Rome, Ga. Interesting history. Well, at least people can snipe from the tower to protect it now.

Interesting history

It was disappointing that the museum in the base was closed, as I had a ton of questions. Most notably being, why enclose the steel tank? At some point it was going to require maintenance/replacement.
