I saw something like this a couple of years ago when I was on a visit to Viera. The female ended up tossing it over the side of the nest being built.

I watched a dove break off a small limb that was 3 times as long as its body and fly to a second tree in my backyard and work her way up to her construction site, manoeuvering through the branches as she went. She deftly worked it in and seemed quite pleased if somewhat worn out.
