off brand batteries

Just go to www.sterlingtek.com and buy batteries from there. I have several and they are great.

Could be that they are powerful. I know the aftermarket battery I bought for my D200 is 2800mAh whereas the D200 battery is only 2100mAh. Needless to say it lasts longer.

I have used Calumet's aftermarket batteries with great results.

Canon (like all manufacturers) outsources battery development and production. It's effectively an after-market product anyway.

I bought from ebay that comes with 2 batteries and a charger. All have worked flawlessly so far. Bought 2 months ago and still going after a few charges.

There are very few battery manufacturers in the world, the biggest being Sanyo. So odds are that whether you buy a Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Etc or the after-market, they are the same thing.

Except price where as an example Nikon, Canon etc. batteries are as much as double the cost of the "aftermarket" batteries.
