Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
This is an ethics question.

Is is OK to post all of the pictures, from a Wedding, in a PUBLIC accessible area on the net, eg. in Flickr? I know a a few wedding photographers who post everything they shoot, good and bad. I can see posting a few pictures, as an ad or to show off your skills. However, a wedding is a private event, and that should be respected.

Thoughts?

I would not do it, If they were pics of my wedding or even just pics of me I would not like it, but if the photographer said that was his/her intent. then I wouldn't have any thing to say about it. I still wouldn't like it. I have a problem posting any pics of people on the web unless they know it and don’t care.

Ethically? It depends on your agreement with the client. If they client has agreed that you can use their images as part of your portfolio, than it's fine. As to "all" of the pictures though? Not a chance. Even the clients don't get to see all the images from their wedding. Let's say I shoot 1000 pictures, probably 2-300 get tossed on first cut, and then out of the remaining, about half will go into the proof gallery. Of those, MAYBE 20 - 25 images would be what I would consider suitable for my own gallery.

I personally wouldn't do that because after all, the whole event is very personal and close to heart, to the clients.

Posting up those great captures would be good enough.

1. Your threshold of quality is entirely up to you. Your clients should only see your hits, not your misses. Yes, everyone has misses.

2. Once you have culled through your photos from the big day and have a body work with which you're willing to associate yourself, whether or not you make them publicly accessible depends on your agreement with the happy couple.
