On camera flash at the Zombie Prom!

I'm an off-camera flash girl. Give me some stands, some flashes, some radio poppers, and I'm happy and drooling. But stick that flash on the camera with no modifiers and I'm a deer in the headlights.


I crave complete control over my light and where it's going and how it looks. On camera flash? That just doesn't work for me. So of course I had to force myself out of that comfort zone. While attending a local Zombie Prom event I looked myself dead in the eye and said, "Tammy, the only thing you are taking tonight is a camera and a flash. Nothing else." I never take myself too seriously, and sometimes it's just fun to go out and photograph like your life doesn't depend on it.


I worked in E-TTL mode, which is absolutely wonderful for how I work in on camera flash. All in all, things came out okay. I was bouncing primarily off the low-ceiling the whole time. You can see the rest of the series at my website here - Tammy Hineline, Illustrative Photographer
